This includes files that are open and in use.  Backups of your data can be as often as every 15 minutes.  So instead of backing up your data once a day in a traditional tape environment, you will have essentially backed up your data 96 times a day.  You can then choose from any of these back up versions so you can roll back your data to how it looked 15 minutes ago, 2 hours ago, or whatever point in time that you choose.  You are in control of your backup instead of the other way around.
